Fire on the Haven Hotel top floor trapped guests in the downtown Miami three story building. Virginia Hopkins, 39, died. Charles Foster, 68, was badly burned and hospitalized. Authorities credited a vertical fire barrier with preventing wider loss as residents evacuated from adjoining hotel.
The town expects a low in the mid 30s tonight and a high in the 55 to 60 range tomorrow with a warming trend by Thursday. Lightning caused outages and damage including flickering lights at Shenandoah College and a 40 minute power loss at the Armory. Stephens City auto tags can be bought without penalty until April 22, 1967 at 12 Noon.
Pasadena reports Surveyor 3 continues space trek toward the Sea of Storms site for a lunar touchdown scheduled around 7 p.m. EST Wednesday. Winchester police recovered a car stolen from Paw Paw West Virginia behind National Fruit on Fairmont Ave at 2 30 PM. Maryland State Police recovered a car stolen from B M Chevrolet Cumberland about two hours earlier. The B M auto was taken between 5 30 PM Sunday and 10 30 AM yesterday.
Saigon offered anew to talk peace with North Vietnam and urged both sides to pull back forces from the demilitarized zone and de escalate the war.
