County Tax Rate Holds the Line in Frederick County
Frederick County will keep real estate tax at $2.50 per $100 and personal property tax at $3.30 per $100 for the coming year. The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to hold rates amid budget cuts totaling $90,000, with the school budget taking the largest share of reductions, and set a public hearing for May 12 at 3 p.m. The 1969 70 budget was tentatively approved, with county share listed as $2,511,407. A trespass ordinance was approved after a public hearing, making trespassing on county property a crime.

An American scout platoon and air cavalry reinforcements were pinned down and badly hit by North Vietnamese machine guns near Black Virgin Mountain. Fifteen Americans were killed and sixteen wounded in a four hour battle as tanks and armored personnel carriers rescued them. Farther south a mechanized battalion killed 24 North Vietnamese near the Citadel near the Cambodian border. Three helicopters were shot down, raising total U S helicopter losses to 2 524.
