American Pilot Is Killed in Cambodian Plane Crash
A rocket-damaged cargo plane with a American civilian pilot aboard crashed after takeoff from Phnom Penh airport, killing the pilot and two Chinese crewmen while a Cambodian crewman was seriously injured. The DC-3 burst into flames after losing power near the runway. it was unclear if the flight was part of the U S airlift. Government forces counterattacked the rebels near the airport as Phnom Penh reported heavy bombardment and claimed thousands of insurgent casualties.
