Agricultural Surpluses Left No Big Surplus This Spring
Richmond Apr 11 This spring shows first general stimulus in five years says the United States Department of Agriculture in its monthly agricultural situation report. There are no large surpluses left save cattle and some farmers plan to expand feed crops by about seven million acres, while livestock runs down. The report warns against excessive expansion as prices may fall and returns weaken. Prices for most crops fell in March, hogs rose about 20 percent, and most farm products are pricier than last year except cotton potatoes and butter. Purchasing power of 30 farm products in exchange for non agricultural goods stands at 88 in February down from 82 a year earlier.
