Three members of the Winchester Park Association led by Fred W. Forney met Staunton officials including City Manager W L Hall and Fire Chief Eugene H Dabney to study Staunton municipal pool. The pool, run by the Fire Department, was funded by city money with repayment in installments plus interest. A quarter of the cost has been repaid and revenue from a small user charge covers attendants and operating and debt costs. Up to 800 people used the pool on hot days.

Muncie Ind April 8 A brief notice from Chorge A Ball millionaire fruit jar maker says he donates his common stock in Mid American Corporation to a religious charitable and educational foundation bearing his name and his wife Frances. The Mid American Corporation is linked to the Van Sweringen railroad system and grew from 1935 efforts by Mrs Ball and George A Tomlinson of Cleveland to buy foreclosed securities during the Van Sweringen collapse. Ball's reportedly about 10 million dollar profit from backing the Van Swerings is cited in New York dispatches.

Julius C. Davis of Winchester died at his home at 1203 Valley avenue from complications. He was 87, born September 1, 1850, a native of Hampshire County West Virginia. He lived in Winchester 59 years and worked in leather. a former shoe maker with a Piccadilly street shop. He was Lutheran, member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Knights of Pythias. Survived by wife Mary Jane Harce until last year, daughter Mrs. O T Ritter, six grandchildren, a sister in Yellow Springs WV, and several nieces and nephews.
