Forty school children and a bus driver watched in horror as a rear dual wheel crushed nine year old Joan Elaine Pent at a road junction near a store owned by her grandparents. The driver, Vernon Unger, faced involuntary manslaughter charges. George E Johnson, 51, of Bloomery WV, identified as the car driver, was released on bond. Joan died instantly from multiple skull and leg fractures as the two ton truck descended a hill, the bus patrolman nearby.

Eight Classes To Be Shown In Hobby Display
Visitors to the armory at 7 30 tonight for the opening of the first annual Winchester Hobby Show will find eight classifications of exhibits. Shirley Bly president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce joint sponsors of the show with the Winchester Recreation Department said hobbies would be judged in these classifications: Needle Work crocheting knitting sewing and the like Photography color of black and white Handicrafts leather metals and cork materials Artwork painting on cloth paper glass etc in either water oil or chalk and miscellaneous any hobbies not included in above. Awards offered There will be first second third and fourth place winners in each class plus a grand winner of all exhibits for a loving cup. Ribbons will be awarded for the other prizes. Judging will take place tomorrow afternoon. Special entertainment is being arranged for those attending the show. Three local radio amateurs Police Sgt. Warren Rudolph William Swisher and John Miller will conduct a three way radio broadcast from in front of the armory Saturday at 5 15 Pp m and again at 7 o clock. Hobbies were arranged in the armory this afternoon. There is no admission charge for the show.
