Boy Hit By Truck Breaks Leg Near Martinsburg Pike
Six year old Robert Gibbs of the J H Gibbs family near the Martinsburg pike sustained a fractured right leg and abrasions when struck by Lee DeHaven's truck about 4 pm. Investigating officers deemed the accident unavoidable and no charges were filed. The boy was taken to Memorial Hospital in Earl Mason’s car. the injury was described as a leg fracture with the child in satisfactory condition. A witness said he darted into traffic after watching southbound cars pass. DeHaven reportedly braked and swerved, the bumper striking the boy as the vehicle slowed near a fence.
