Judge Donald L. Weems opened the week with four convictions for public conduct violations. Charles Ritter faced disorderly conduct charges, Linwood Haymaker was fined for drunkenness, and Douglas Crisman along with Carl McKee were fined for drunken and disorderly behavior, each totaling 10.75 dollars.
Senators Morris Sheppard and Tom Connally of Texas urge Secretary Hull to appoint Col Alvin M. Owsley of Dallas as minister to Canada. Owsley, former national commander of the American Legion, is noted for his Texas leadership. The London fund notes charitable distributions over 28 years.

Norfolk April 3 Joseph T Deal former Congressman from the Second District today announced his candidacy for Governor of Virginia subject to the Democratic primary in August. His platform calls for repeal of the 18th amendment and Layman act elimination of the short ballot provision and abrogation of the Byrd tax segregation plan. He favors tax cuts lower utility rates and power decentralization. He said he ran under the conviction that Virginia Democratic leadership is not fully aligned with the national administration. He has long opposed the Byrd program and is a friend of rival candidate George C Peery. He added he would support Peery.
The local Red Cross chapter will hold a rummage sale on Saturday, April 8, at its offices on the second floor of City Hall. Items include clothing donated to the Red Cross that were unsuited for general distribution.

The Frederick Circuit Court opened its April term with a special grand jury indicting twelve defendants and setting trial dates. Walter Elliott was tried and acquitted on intoxicating liquors charges, while pending trials include Isaac Orndorff, Donald Ailes, Paul and Fred Elliott, Ernest Robinson, Edward Steele, Charles Welsh and Carl F. Justice through April 10.
Funeral rites were held yesterday at 2 pm for William Campbell who died at the County Parish Farm. The Rev Luther McFarland conducted services at the Parish Farm and burial followed in the farmhouse lot. Campbell, a Pennsylvania native, had lived in Frederick county for many years and was 88.
