Washington AP reports wholesale prices rose two tenths of a percent in March led by higher processed foods and industrial goods, offsetting a one percent drop in farm products. The year saw a 5.5 percent increase overall, with careful seasonal adjustments noted.
The 17 year old Miss Sherry Lee McIntire of Ridge Ave Winchester is named Outstanding Girl for April. A Han dley High School junior she is sports editor of The Gavel and a member of the Girls Monogram Club. She plans fashion merchandising at Lord Fairfax Community College after graduation.
Kamal Junblatt agreed to a five day cease-fire in Lebanon's civil war to allow a new president to be elected. The plan includes Moslem dominance over Christian power sharing and excludes regular PLA troops. Fighting slowed as cease-fire details were discussed with Palestinian leaders and U S envoys in Beirut.
Advocates push no fault auto insurance in the House after Senate defeat. The bill failed 49 to 45, with critics including lawyers and the White House opposing it. Sponsors cited lobbying by the Association of Trial Lawyers and a large spending campaign as key factors in the setback.
