Hays County school tax rates linked to state aid variance
The tax load in Hays County districts hinges on state funding shares. Hays Consolidated ISD relies 78 percent on state funds, while Wimberley ISD depends only 29 percent, pushing ad valorem taxes higher in Wimberley. Dripping Springs ISD, with 45 percent state funding, shares similar rate with Wimberley. Property values total 407.5 million in Dripping Springs and 349.8 million in Wimberley, Dripping Springs enrolling about 1,000 more students, lowering wealth per student and boosting state aid. Judge Scott McCown’s July 6 ruling allowed adjustments for enrollment growth and revenue losses before rollback thresholds, preventing rollback elections this year.
