Engineer proposes alternate route for 138kV power line

Wimberley residents submit many route ideas for a PEC 138000 volt transmission line from Dripping Springs to Wimberley none backed by relevant credentials. Grover Cowell an area electrical engineer joins the discussion with potential equal footing against PEC. Hearings on PECs CCN amendment opened in March with a recess after a week of testimony and a conference in Austin. The only existing power line is a 69000 volt line from Canyon Lake. PEC says a second source reduces blackout risk for the community. The key issue is where to build and whether the line should be above or below ground. Cowell questioned the need for the route and suggested following the Canyon Lake path for a secondary line. Cowell's HL&P background included control of 41 substation areas serving 1200 megawatts. See Engineer page 5.
