Wimberley Little League marks 25th anniversary of opening day

The Hill Country Recreation Association recalls 25 years of growth and effort toward baseball in Wimberley. Subsequent leadership and regional partnerships shaped local play and support through the 1970s.

Wimberley Youth League Surges Ahead With New Fields and Teams

In 1981 the league split from Kyle and Buda keeping sponsorship money in Wimberley and boosting youth play on Bowen fields. The town expanded with majors on the upper field and T-ball on the lower. An active adult league grew to six men’s teams and four to five women’s squads, hosting summer tournaments that drew teams from Florida. The Dinner Bell dream team beat the Texas State Bank, and a coed league of 18 couples debuted with University Savings winning the first event. By 1986 Bowen field outgrew demand, prompting a $72,000 note to buy five acres from the VFW and build a new complex.
