Hays County bond sale set for Monday bidding

Hays County will open bids Monday to purchase 5.8 million in general obligation bonds to finance a 50 mile road and bridge upgrade project and a partial 1.8 million courthouse renovation with 4 million targeted for roads. An additional 8 million bonds planned later. First Southwest Company will act as financial advisor and bid proposer amid a potential conflict of interest which was dismissed. Ratings updates from Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s increased the county’s ratings to A and A respectively. See Sale, Page 3.

WIC Program to Start in Wimberley Area

Linda Allen reports WIC will hold first meetings in Wimberley at St Marys Catholic Church on February 8 and 22 from 9 am to 4 pm to screen for eligibility. The program offers food, nutrition classes, and referrals for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young children up to age five with nutritional needs. Bring proof of income or assistance to qualify. A nutritionist will review needs and schedule classes.

Texans rise as 28AAA toughest realignment move noted

UIL realignment announced Tuesday moves Wimberley ISD to class AAA joining district 28AAA deemed the toughest in the state. Cuero Gonzales Luling LaVernia Yoakum are set to compete with Wimberley, with past football rivalries and basketball experience shaping the new schedule and facility challenges.

UT System extends contract on Nelson tract near Blanco River

James L. Wilson of Endowment Real Estate for the UT System says the 164.29 acre Nelson tract at the southwest corner of RR12 and the Blanco River has been extended. The extension, to allow a purchaser's feasibility study, was agreed with Scott and White Memorial Hospital. exact days beyond February 7th not disclosed.

Wimberley High Set Banquet for Fall Athletes

Wimberley High School will host the fall athletic banquet at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the academy. Dinner includes roast beef. Tickets cost 6.00 and are available from coach Neims.

School bus and van collide near Ranch Road 12

A Pontiac van and a school bus collided at the junction of Ranch Road 12 and County Road 314 around 7:30 am. John Phillips drove the Pinto south on Ranch Road 12. Peggy Schiflett and her daughter attempted to pass, Schiflett then hit the bus and damaged her van. Schiflett and a student were treated. Phillips cited for failure to signal. See Collide, Page 14.
