Open season begins November 16 as Texas deer herd accounts for about 20 percent of the U.S. total. In last hunting period 516,900 hunters harvested 362,179 deer across 180 of 254 counties. Fawns are born mainly in May and June. predation and disease claim many in early life. Bucks roam widely during rut as hunters target surplus deer to ease land pressure.
