Wimberley Mill in Wimberley, Texas

My School Days by Emmet Cowan

Emmet Cowan recalls early schooling from 1899 in Texas, detailing her year by year teachers, routes, and playful tricks. She describes rides on a white sorrel named Jim, a fox chase game, lunch bells, and pranks, plus her gradual shift through Wimberley, Jacobs Well, and Way side schools. She reflects on age four to eight grades, notes arithmetic challenges, and closes with affection for classmates and town memory.
