Wildflower china pages recall LBJ era White House sets
A nostalgia piece on Lyndon B. Johnson’s wildflower themed White House china from 1968, noting designers Van Day Truex and Andre Piette, Castleton China, and an anonymous donor. It contrasts with Lucy Hayes’s Lemonade Lucy era and celebrates the flora driven decorative program and related observations about Texas wildflowers and garden life.

Amasa Turner Land Grant and Hughes Veterans Query
Dear Editor letter traces 1820 acre land grant tied to Col. Amasa Turner and its links to Wimberley Texas. Notes Turner’s 1835 siege of Bexar and San Jacinto service, later Lavaca County roles, and Gonzales burial. Questions why James Hughes death at Goliad isn’t on rolls or monuments, and if two men share the name. Mentions Wesley and Wiley Hughes bounty land near Wimberley and possible statute issues.
