Wimberley area telephones grow from small start
History recalls 1930s effort to install a Wimberley telephone exchange with Magneto switchboard, funded by local citizens. A crew dug holes and strung wire, Mrs. Lane became the first operator in 1936, and the May 1937 directory listed 25 subscribers including Burdett's Cash Store, Camp Wimberley, and several homes along the line.
