General Telephone Co introduces Direct Distance Dialing DDD beginning December 6 1970 at 1 01 a m in Wimberley with a nationwide network permitting customers to dial station to station long distance calls directly to thousands of cities in the United States and Canada according to D G Reese Brownwood division manager.

The move to direct dialing allows reaching any out of town number with two letters and five numerals or seven numerals after dialing the access code one one area code and the full number. Special instruction cards will guide Wimberley customers before the December 6 1970 change.
