The Wimberley Mill celebrates its first birthday as a free volunteer newspaper now in its second volume. Readers are invited to enjoy Emmett Cowan’s Christmas reminiscence and Hazel Green’s Nature Notes along with a nostalgic look at a $40 wolf bounty from the 1880s by C. H. Wimberley.
The November chamber meeting, held after a covered dish supper at the school, welcomed new members Mr and Mrs Floyd Motter and noted returning visitors Mr and Mrs Cheatum. Reports showed a bank balance of 365.24 with 114 family memberships, Mill cash and receivables at 566.05, and 4 of 5 benches by Mr Cowan nearly ready though already on the square. Discussions covered Jacobs Well park, Wimberley Legacy fund needs, Christmas decorations, and a Teen Committee after a successful Halloween party. Jim Winn resigned as Scout Master. Buck Bowen will act temporarily while recruiting a replacement. by laws amendments and board nomination slate were discussed.

Emmett Cowan recalls a hill country Christmas with nine family members and neighbors along a river route to Fischer's Store. Saloon crowds passed by, their holiday whiskey loud as they sang on the road, while children hid lights and memories linger of friends and relatives now gone.
The Wimberley Mill invites area residents to decorate homes for a Christmas contest. Entries must be in place by December 20 with out of town judges evaluating from that date onward. Call the Chamber of Commerce at 2661 to enter. Prizes total $30 with $15 for first, $10 for second, and $5 for third.
