Reports from Raleigh indicate floodwaters in Eastern North Carolina are subsiding with most low lands inundated up to three feet. Drownings add to the toll as C. C. Bell and Le Roy Coley die on Contemnea creek near Stantonburg while seeking a boat. Crop damage estimates pending by the agricultural department.
Raleigh Oct 1 Despite heavy rains the labor market in the state remains generally good with unskilled labor in demand in Asheville brick masons sought in Charlotte and farm labor needed in Greensboro. State employment data show 792 placements 993 registrations 577 requests for help with 862 referred. 175 of those placed were women. Roads damage is estimated at 300000 and floods persist with crops under water in Eastern North Carolina as streams recede.
The State Fair department announces nearly 4000 dollars in premiums for agricultural exhibits during October 13 to 17.
