Midnight in Town Exposes City Sin and Salvation
A Sunday sermon paints midnight in urban life as a field of ruin and redemption. Dramatizing neon-lit danger, the preacher urges Christian action against gambling, drunkenness, and neglect, contrasting virtuous care with the wreckage of sin and poverty. He recounts a dying friend’s conversion, condemns fraud and cruelty, and calls for practical mercy and prayer.
Contract Laborers Charged With Perjury In New York Case
Philips Catone of Philadelphia faced further hearing before United States Commissioner Edmunds on perjury charges for certifying that ten Italian immigrants were not contract laborers when he had hired them in Italy. The Britania crew arrived March 13 and about twelve men allegedly followed a letter promising $1.25 daily wage. Domenico Barbato swore the letter existed and connected Catone to the arrangement. Catone denied engaging the men and posted $1,000 bail for the May NY court term.
