County seeks water grant for Wilson County homes
Wilson County plans to apply for a 275000 community development block grant to connect about 25 homes near the Fairview area to the Picosa Water Supply Corp. If approved, the county would lead the process with a public hearing and an interlocal agreement. Residents rely on private wells and report bad orange-tinted water.

Podwika Completes Basic Training and AIT
Pfc. Victoria F. Podwika of the U S Army National Guard has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon Georgia. She served as squad leader during the 10 week program and earned 22 weeks of MOS training as an IT Specialist. Podwika attends Texas A M University Corpus Christi in ROTC and is the daughter of Matt and Sandy Podwika of Adkins. She is a 2011 graduate of La Vernia High School.

No toll road fees for select Texas veterans
The Texas Transportation Commission approves free passage on several toll roads for veterans who are disabled or recipients of the Purple Heart or Medal of Honor. Eligible routes include Loop 1 and SH 45 in Austin, SH 130 segments 1-4, Camino Colombia near Laredo, and Loop 49 in Tyler, effective January 1, 2013.
