Taylor former Floresville City Manager and Wilson County Sheltered Workshop director died Nov 3 1983 after a period of heart illness He served 12 years in Floresville and contributed to the Sheltered Workshop Taylor a devout Christian and former Air Force veteran was born in Wilson County and held YMCA leadership posts in several states before moving to Floresville to lead the city government He retired in August and was remembered for his faith compassion and community work.

LaVernia Bank Robbery Ends With Deputy’s Death
On Friday November 4 1983 two masked men robbed the State Bank of LaVernia near La Vernia Texas hoisting about 50000 dollars from tellers and abducting Wilson County Deputy Sheriff Ollie Sam mie Childress. The deputy was later killed during the incident. Several eyewitnesses tracked the robbery vehicle a Mercury Cougar and a Chevrolet Malibu. Authorities believed the assailants planned to kidnap Bob Presley La Vernia Police Chief.
