Priest Receives Polish Cross of Merit in San Antonio
Rev. Canon Bernard Goebel, pastor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Panna Maria, was awarded the Cross of Merit Defender of the Homeland by the Republic of Poland in a May 3 ceremony at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in San Antonio. He avoided travel to Los Angeles to accept the honor, and Consul Tomas Trafas attended from L A. Goebel, a survivor of the 1920 Battle of the Vistula and Dachau, is noted as one of three living veterans of that war in the United States.
