Watermelon Jubilee Queens Honored in Stockdale Reception
A June 12 reception at Lorenz House honored past and present Watermelon Jubilee Queen Melones. About 25 to 30 of 56 queens attended. Judy Malik hosted and stories of reigns were shared. Four former queens are known to be deceased, with family members present. Flowers from their church ties and a 1937 coronation setting at Lorenz House linked the jubilee to local history. The piece suggests a permanent queen Melone reunion.
