Red Cross promotes water safety to cut drownings
Texas leads the nation in drowning deaths of children five and younger and most are preventable. The Red Cross urges families to practice water safety this summer with tips on swimming with a buddy, staying within limits, eyeing weaker swimmers, avoiding alcohol, obeying no diving signs, and wearing Coast Guard jackets when boating. It also covers weather awareness, preventing choking, rest after meals, emergency actions using CHECK CALL CARE, and how to respond to drowning, including calling 9 1 1 and performing rescue breathing or CPR. For more info call the San Antonio Area Red Cross at 210 224 5151.
