New bridge planned for FM 539 detour to withstand floods

TxDOT plans a sturdier temporary bridge for the FM 539 detour across Cibolo Creek to be completed by month’s end. Residents warn loss of the bridge hinders emergency services and hurts local business, notably Diamond Shamrock at FM 539 and US 87 which reports a $1,200 daily drop in gross receipts. The store’s customers north of the Cibolo are heavily affected.

Floresville chase ends north of town after DPS shootout

High speed pursuit from a south San Antonio dealership ended four miles north of Floresville after DPS Sgt. James Bernhardt fired two shotgun rounds at a stolen 1995 Ford Explorer traveling on the wrong side of the road. The driver, a man with dreadlocks, fled as officers boxed the vehicle near U S 181.
