Watermelon Jubilee heats Stockdale festivities June 14 16
In Stockdale the annual Watermelon Jubilee runs Thursday through Saturday with Jud Ashmore of KBUC fame serving a Saturday parade meal. Activities include watermelon judging, fiddle contest, kiddie events at the school football field, rodeos Friday and Saturday nights, queen crowning on Friday, and dances each night. The queen coronation opens events Thursday in the high school auditorium. In La Vernia residents critique the new post office drive and parking lot limiting five cars, with two way traffic concerns, and Saturday traffic on highway 87 remains busy.
