Council engineers solution to local road project delay
The St Hedwig council, led by Mayor Mary Jo Dylla, moved to appoint Faraklas Engineers Inc. as the town’s engineering firm for the bond financed road project after a contentious special session. Council members argued over mayoral authority and the firm’s qualifications including Bob Bretze’s license status. The motion passed with Mills Silver and Padalecki in favor and Wyrich Arevalo opposing. Bretze’s licensing issue remained unresolved. Faraklas was named the engineering firm of record for St Hedwig.

Poth selects Dallas official as new town police chief
The town of Poth will hire Steve Gonzales a detective from Addison Texas to lead the police force. He started in the Dallas suburb after a prior nonpaid stint in Poth in 1995 6 and will begin Aug 16. The town has operated without a police department since March following indictments of two former officers. Mayor LaNell Matthews praised the interim coverage by Wilson County deputies.

End in sight for U S 87 expansion project
LA VERNIA Weather and resurfacing problems have been resolved and crews return on the 4.7 mile U S 87 project from La Vernia to the Bexar County line. The $6.2 million expansion should finish this fall with paving completed in about two weeks if weather holds.
