The board of trustees votes to survey taxpayers about a school building plan with a January 28 1980 deadline. Residents may obtain surveys at the high school office La Vernia State Bank or La Vernia Post Office and return completed forms to the School Administrative Office.
The San Antonio Optimist Club backs the Floresville effort with Everett Taylor named temporary chairman and John Peloubet as temporary secretary treasurer. The first meeting at Cattleman’s Restaurant featured Jud Ashmore of Medina Lake discussing Sink or Swim in the 1980s. Future speaker Wade Key of the Philadelphia Eagles was noted.
The La Vernia E.M.S. report for 1979 notes 62 transports and 23 volunteers including ten EMTs and eight ECAs plus five Red Cross members. Total expenses reached $2,339.50 for supplies and equipment with major outlays for a new stretcher and vehicle repairs.
