Applewhite descendants attend marker dedication in LaVernia

Applewhite descendants gather at Finch Funeral Home Chapel for the dedication of a historical marker on the former Applewhite homestead. About 275 guests attended as city leaders, officials, and descendants celebrated preserving the site linked to 19th century settlers Thomas and Elizabeth Applewhite.

Cumulative voting education session held in Poth

At City Hall on February 17 Austin attorney Jose Garza led a public hearing to explain cumulative voting. The system affects city and school board races in May with votes allocated by office. mayor gets one vote, two council seats get two votes, three school board seats get three votes. Mayor Gene Maeckel noted April 4 voter registration deadline.

Floresville Endorses County Wide Burn Ban Enforcement

Floresville city officials endorse Wilson County burn ban due to arid conditions. Outdoor fires are prohibited except inside enclosed areas. violations carry a Class C misdemeanor with up to a $500 fine. City Hall brush pickup is urged for residents with yard waste.
