Shuttle commander has local kin connected to La Vernia woman
NASA space shuttle Discovery, commanded by Mark Polansky, is in orbit on an 11 day mission. Polansky’s La Vernia relation Clydell Witte is his great aunt by marriage, linking the local family to the mission as Lisa Ristow Polansky’s husband works to rewire the ISS and deliver a new module. The Witte family celebrated the Florida launch trip and the first night launch on December 9 despite weather delays.
