DPS Director Jim Adams says an extra recruit training school is planned in 1982 to fill 86 highway patrol vacancies and five in Driver License Service. The agency aims to add 268 troopers that year and notes 20 more highway patrol, 10 license and weigh stations, and 20 other positions were approved. Trainees undergo an 18 week academy with starting salaries of 1233 monthly, rising to 1347 upon graduation and 2537 after one year.
