Birds and Flowers Drive Rice Family Business in Wilson County
The Rice family, including Sharon Mercer, runs a thriving birds and flowers operation near Stockdale, with 1 000 breeding parakeets and 500 in reserve. Birds are shipped biweekly from San Antonio to Tampa and sold through Tampa Livestock Distributors across the United States. Previously oilfield workers, the Rices value country life and community ties.
