Students of the month honor Floresville pair
Floresville Independent School District names Deyanira Castaneda and Lukas Kemp as November students of the month. Deyanira, 17, is active in Air Force Junior ROTC and Spanish Club, and plans architecture studies at the University of Houston. Lukas, 17, has a 3.93 GPA, National Honor Society member, and eyes computer science at UT or MIT.

WWII veteran earns Floresville high school diploma long overdue
Garnet Dibrell Burkett, 76, received a Floresville High School diploma Nov. 20 under a law allowing WWII veterans who left school to serve to complete their education. Burkett left in 1945 after two years, served in the Navy, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He urged other eligible veterans to apply and noted his five grandchildren.
