Alicia B. Hurley 41 of Stockdale died August 13 in Galveston. She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Cathy Moore, stepdaughters Norma Vader and Jo Ann Hurley, stepson Jason Wayne Hurley, two step grandchildren, and her father T. Glenn Smith. Funeral services were August 17 in Goetz Memorial Chapel and interment in San Geronimo Cemetery.
The IRS will grant automatic extensions from April 15 to August 15 for paid-up taxpayers in 1992. Returns filed by August 15 are treated as timely if tax payments were made by April 15. In 1990 over six million Form 4868 requests were filed, with about 80 percent requesting refunds. Processing required the equivalent of over 250 IRS jobs. For 1991 taxes due in April 1992, filing by August 15 only delays refunds.
The Texas Young Lawyers Association announces a statewide effort focused on high school seniors to promote voting rights ahead of the November elections. It will provide a curriculum guide, trainer seminars, in-school talks, and voter registration assistance, with materials distributed in August designed by Sam Hurt to mark the 18th anniversary of the 26th Amendment.
