Wanda Von Minden began at State Bank of LaVernia in 1964 as a note teller and now serves as Vice President in charge of the Note and Installment Loan Department. A LaVernia resident, her husband Leon teaches in San Antonio and their daughters are teachers in Seguin and Amarillo.
Ray Seguin opens La Casita Hair Styling Studio next to Don Nocha’s Restaurant on Highway 181 North Floresville offering hair cuts facials and makeup for men and women. Senior citizens receive half price on all services Wednesdays with limited evening appointments.
The annual homecoming festival at Cestohowa Catholic Church is set for Sunday August 15 starting at 2:00 p.m. Barbecue and sausage plates will be sold from 2:00 p.m. until sold out. A country auction begins at 4:00 p.m. with food and fellowship hosted by Pastor Msgr. Erwin A. Juraschek and co chairmen.
The Floresville schedule lists August band practices from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the 9th 11th and 13th, and Monday to Friday in the third and fourth weeks. La Vernia Schools will open for all elementary grades K through 6 on Monday at 8 30 a m with kindergarten dismissal at 2 25 p m and grades 1 6 at 3 25 p m. New students must pre register August 16 19. existing students need not.
Charles Melenyzer began building a dome home in 1974 for his wife Linda and daughters Shawn Jennifer and Chass on Pittman Road near Hwy 87. The home also houses Linda’s precision hair styling business, combining residence and shop in one distinctive dwelling.
LaVernia Hermann Sons Lodge No 180 kicks off a membership drive at the regular meeting Sunday August 15 at 4 00 p m at the lodge hall. Members are urged to attend and join in a pot luck supper with drinks furnished by the lodge.
