Texas passes Diabetes Care Pilot Program legislation
Law creates a Texas Diabetes Care Pilot Program to deliver continuous care preventive services and case management to Medicaid diabetics in high risk South Texas counties. It directs minimum benefit standards for private plans by 1998 and backs school based diabetes education materials and curricula statewide.

Fire destroys house in Hill Top Ranch subdivision
Firefighters from three stations battled a two hour blaze on July 29 at a still under construction two story house on Country View Street. The Guzman owned home suffered total loss with damages around 100000. One firefighter treated for heat exhaustion. arson ruled out.
