Liberal uprising in North Carolina Anti-Prohibition Convention
The Anti-Prohibition County Convention met in Charlotte to nominate legislative and county tickets. Col. Wm. Johnston chaired with J. W. Brown and A. B. Gillespie secretaries. The speech praised liberal progress, urged self government and improved schools, and warned Bourbons against obstruction. The convention elected county officers and set a liberal Republican ticket to challenge machine Democracy in the county.
