The New Bern Times claims the first bale of cotton sold in the state this year occurred yesterday in the city, while a week earlier two bales arrived from Richmond county and were noted in other papers. The author mocks the paper’s “local genius” and his earlier tale of 14 inch apples, suggesting he move to La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Good Advice extols health as Heaven’s boon and warns of lifestyle harms. It promotes Plantation Bitters as a delicious tonic and appetizer. Also advertises MaryNoura Water as superior Cologne and Kosxoo liver remedy by Dr. J. J. Lawrence, claiming broad cures and toning effects, with a Wilmington, N. C. sale.
