Tragic Death of Randolph Williams After Mule Incident
In Wilmington May 1881 Randolph Williams 24, son of Thos M Williams of Brunswick County, died after a mule dragged him for miles when a dog spooked the animal. He suffered multiple broken ribs and severe injuries and died near his father’s Smithville area home. Police pursued two suspects at Carolina Rice Mills in a later incident. Daniels and Smith faced jail bonds and Daniels was charged with assaulting an officer.
