Long obituary mentions William Snoak a 97 year old Germain descendant and progenitor of 574 living descendants across 10 children 116 Whosrefeld noted. born in Orangeburg he has always lived there and is described as hearty. Other items report Reno court martial, San Francisco police court sentence, forgeries in Providence, Senate affairs and canal talk.
In a July House debate on the Special Deficiency Bill McMahon of Ohio denounces funding for special deputies despite a Supreme Court ruling. Garfield defends upholding the law, warns against disobedience, and urges lawmakers to support orderly legal authority and public order.
The Mt Olive Church celebrated the laying of its cornerstone under the Gand United Order of Odd Fellows with a 2 p m procession from Free Love Lodge to the Dawson and Second street corner. Officers ministers and lodge members formed a large painted line of march, followed by a diverse crowd and a choir led by Edward Henry. Port of Wilmington enforces quarantine rules with penalties up to 200 pounds per violation. Vessels must present a clean health bill, show no infectious disease en route, cleanse and disinfect, discharge ballast, obtain written permit endorsed by New Hanover County Health Superintendent, and await pilot notice. Season runs May 1 to November 1 unless sickness occurs aboard.
