Edgecombe Republican Convention Draws Record Crowd
Tarboro North Carolina June 25 1878 a vast Edgecombe county Republican convention drew about two thousand attendees at the court house yard with delegates from fourteen townships. J C Dancy served as temporary chair and John Norfleet as permanent chair with a ticket honoring Republicans and a strong pledge to oppose a mixed ticket. Delegates elected to a Congressional Convention and a series of party resolutions condemned cross ticket backing and affirmed steadfast Republican loyalty.
