A Weldon excursion of Miss Hoopers pupils arrived by special train to board the General Howard for Smithville and forts. Republicans convened at Gardner Place to nominate township officers with a committee reporting magistrate and other posts. Also advice on domestic education for women, a math puzzle about bread loaves, business rules for young men, and a weather forecast predicting periodic storms near the second Sundays of July and August and the first Sundays of September and October.
