Hon John W Shackelford died at his boarding houses in Washington on January 8 from pneumonia at about 36. He held many county and state positions and was elected to Congress in 1880 while serving a term. he died before completing it. He was buried in Richlands, North Carolina, on January 20. A committee from Con Brew attended his home funeral by special train. He leaves a wife, brother, and other relatives. Sympathy to family and friends.
