Debris shows bits of bodies on telegraph wires and ruins. officials fear all workers in the building are dead. John Paul of Sayville, Ill. died in hospital. a hand with a diamond ring, once belonging to B. R. Dodge the night superintendent, was found near the plant as workers search the ruins.
J J Jenkins Republican candidate for Congress watched as E S Thomas was found guilty of simple assault and given a year on the roads after the jury cleared him of capital felony. The verdict followed a noon start and a 9 30 arrival of the crowd and judge.
Basil Wilson Duke, brigadier general in the Confederate army and longtime Kentucky lawyer, died in a New York hospital at age 76. Born in Kentucky and residing in Louisville, he worked for over two decades with the Louisville and Nashville Railway law department. He authored books on finance and the Civil War and rose from private to brigadier general before surrendering and being paroled in 1865.
The North Carolina National Guard was ordered to the border today.
