Knotty Railroad Problem Baffles Georgia Leaders

Atlanta November 13 The Western and Atlantic Railroad valued at 20 million dollars and state backed credit faces a parallel line threat if the Georgia Supreme Court finds the anti parallel charter act unconstitutional. The amendment was not voted by the Legislature or presented to voters in a prior election and may be reintroduced in 1917. Debate splits House leaders over sale of the Western and Atlantic with Burwell backing sale and Culpepper opposing. If the act is struck down the state may seek relief from the United States Supreme Court, delaying final action until a constitutional amendment is passed and approved.
