New York November 4. Vance McCormi ck, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, issued a formal estimate predicting Woodrow Wilson's re election next Tuesday. He forecasts not fewer than 364 electoral votes with possible increases to 461, naming 30 states as Democratic plus several leaning to the party and a Republican bloc in six states. He says the forecast rests on reports from party bureaus and detailed canvasses and polls nationwide.

London reports ninety two people died when the British steamships Connermara and Retriever collided and sank in a fierce gale in the Irish Sea. Only two survivors are known. no Americans reported missing. Connermara carried passengers from Greenore Ireland to Sly Head Wales. Retriever was coal laden.

Charles Evans Hughes drew a 70,000 strong Madison Square Garden rally and Fifth Avenue march as he closed his campaign in New York. He denounced Wilson’s foreign policy, urged firm U S resolve, and thanked supporters, including Taft and Root, amid cheers for his family and a booming torchlight procession.
Chairman Wilcox of the Republican National Committee predicted a decisive November election win. He stated Hughes would secure at least a 100 vote majority in the electoral college, based on reports from most states, with expectations the majority would grow larger.
Five persons died and 17 were injured when a Norfolk Southern train plowed into open cars about 24 miles from Wilson North Carolina. Conductor C A Sallinger of Raleigh was among the dead and Mrs Vience Williams of Raleigh may be fatally hurt as an artery in her arm was severed. Others injured included J E Crute of Wilson Jesse E Williams and W B Briggs former Raleigh postmaster.
