New York May 18 The cotton market shows renewed strength with all positions at or near new highs for the season. July at about 20.33 and October around 20. Yards on spot prices in Wilmington and Norfolk also quoted. gains reflect bullish Wall Street and Western buying amid optimistic international outlook.
New Orleans May 18. After a hesitant start July fell briefly but then moved to higher levels led by favorable cable news. In the first half hour trading showed gains of 9 to 11 points from yesterday's close with January at 19.48 to 19.62 and October and December also trading higher for the day.
Liverpool May 18 spot cotton prices show good middling at 13.38, middling 13.26, and low middling 13.01. Sales reach 8,000 bales with 800 for speculator export. receipts total 11,000. Futures steady with August at 12.24, December-January 12.02, February-March 11.93, and other quotes obscured in the text.
The cotton seed oil market closed steady in New York on May 18 with spot bids at 16.45 and futures ranges across the year. May delivers 15.60 to 16.74, June 16.42 to 16.50, July 18.44 to 16.48, and other months around 16.04 to 16.49. Total sales reached 29,600.
