Market Summary and Cotton Prices Rise on Demand
The market opened firm as cotton futures advanced with March at 17.50, May around 17.60, and October near 16.48 amid continued buying by Liverport and domestic traders. Strength credited to broad export optimism, lower vessel losses in war zones, and absorption of cheap new supplies. Naval stores in Wilmington and Savannah showed little activity while Wall Street munitions and war-supply shares climbed, led by Bethlehem Steel and allied stocks.
